Biological world

DNA 2 1

What is the biological world strand?

Students will explore the cell and how an organism relies on this powerhouse for inheritance of characteristics from one generation to the next. Through scientific inquiry they can explore the inner workings of biological systems such as the digestive and respiratory systems. They will learn about the diversity of life as well as appreciating the journey organisms have taken through evolution. They will investigate interdependence and understand factors affecting ecosystems including those caused by humans. After studying this aspect of the junior cycle, students will appreciate their impact and be aware of how to be an active citizen in counteracting their affect on the biological world.
